The regular hearing in the Russian patent court between the companies Multibeer and Budweiser Budvar, which took place on March 25, has once again come to nothing. The court has postponed the trial to the end of April. The core of the dispute between the plaintiff and the defendant is the determination of priority in the use of the “Budweiser” trademark in Russia. The litigation, which started last summer, might become a long-playing one since third-parties have started to get involved in the dispute, e.g. “Rosiyskaya povovarenaya kompania”, online stores, the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service and others. It seems that the sides are not going to conclude any agreements and the case will persist. For Multibeer Company, the beer importer, this is not the first litigation about a limitation of copyright protection of a trademark. At the moment, it is also on trial with the Russian manufactures of the Mexican beer “Corona”.
