Aerospace corporation “Energia” has tested the newest technology which was patented last autumn in Russia. This is an inflatable space module with the meteor shield which consists of a hard compartment and a transformable containment. Multilayer structure of the outer transformable cover protects the compartment from small meteors and space debris. “This is not an armor, of course. But everything that we have to deal while flying on the low orbit will be countered,” says the corporation president Vladimir Solncev in his interview to “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”. The transformable cover consists of different special layers: the radiation and meteor shield, the insulating layer and the outer load-bearing coating. Weight and size characteristics allow the module to be carried to the orbit by using standard launchers.
