This week, the Principality of Monaco hosted the European Patent Office’s (EPO) Online Services User Day in Monte Carlo. The event featured over 19 member states and 100 different participants, mostly patent attorneys and those employed in the IT departments of innovating companies.
The conference was opened by EPO President Benoît Battistelli, who noted that the provision of quality online services is vital to the Office’s mission of supporting innovation and growth across the continent: “It doesn’t just mean efficiency for us – it means offering gains in quality and efficiency for those using our services – improvements, adjustments, enhancements that make life easier when it comes to filing applications.”
The importance of timeliness in servicing clients was stressed in a plenary session of the EPO’s “Early Certainty” initiative. The User Day involved information sessions about ongoing IT developments, from EPO member state projects to collaborations with IP5 (China, Korea, Japan and the US) offices to create a better option for patent filings based on XML. The Day also included several workshops teaching a variety of tools, including the new online filing system (CMS).
The next Online Services User Day will occur in Munich from the 5th to the 6th of April.Tags: Benoit Battistelli, Early Certainty Initiative, EPO - European Patent Office, European patent law, European Patent Office, IP5 offices, IT developments, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Online User Services Day, patent filings
