Microsoft’s technology licensing arm and e-commerce company Rakuten have signed a patent cross-licensing agreement covering each company’s respective consumer electronics products, including Android and Linux-based devices.
“Our agreement with Rakuten reinforces the opportunities that cross-licensing can bring to companies across the technology spectrum,” said Nick Psyhogeos, president of Microsoft Technology Licensing.
“This agreement gives us the freedom to bring our customers new and exciting products, while jointly recognising the value of patented innovation,” said Akio Sugihara, Rakuten director.
The agreement is one of many that Microsoft has announced this year.
Microsoft renewed its licensing agreement with IT tech provider Winstron recently.
In February, Microsoft also entered a licensing agreement with GoPro for wearable technology.Tags: cross-licensing agreement, e-commerce, Microsoft, Nick Psyhogeos, patent, rakuten
